THE TRAJECTORY OF FASHION STYLIST MONA GOROVITZ: A CUTTING OF HER PRODUCTION IN THE MIDDLE 1960'S

Abstract

This article presents the production of the Brazilian fashion designer Mona Gorovitz (Cruz Alta – RS, 1937) in a cut in the mid-1960s. The clipping presented here represents Mona Gorovitz's most productive year, and is made through the fashion sketch collection of the stylist herself. Her large collection of fashion sketches spans from 1958 to 1994 – totaling around 445 sketches. The importance of these sketches is that they reveal, in addition to his role as a stylist, a rich source of information on the visual aesthetics of clothing from different times, and also, thanks to the samples of fabrics existing in several sketches, what we can call index of the production of the textile industry in Brazil during the period in which Gorovitz worked as a fashion stylist. Mona was responsible for the fashion editorial and creator of collections for Claudia magazine, in addition to having created several costumes for television shows, films and singers of the time. There are few references about Mona Gorovitz's trajectory as a fashion stylist. Thus, this article becomes of great importance for the construction of a reference on her trajectory.
