Introduction

          Due to the urgent environmental crises and the scarcity of natural resources, the only way to guarantee future generations equitable access to the same conditions and resources as their ancestors is by promoting functional creations that aim at innovation through sustainability. Therefore, this edition of the call for articles of the Brazilian Journal of Creative Industries proposes the development of functional designs with a focus on sustainability as its theme. This edition targets meeting the creative industry's environmental, social, and economic pillars.
          This is an invitation to the academic community to submit their articles focusing on developing sustainable awareness within the creative industry. We are particularly interested in empirical studies, theoretical analyses, and case studies that discuss the impact of functional creations on the following topics:
          • Design with a focus on sustainable development;
          • Life Cycle Design – Designing functional creations for the system-product life cycle (development of design products, furniture, architecture and others);
          • Slow fashion: conscious and sustainable consumption;
          • The influence of the media on sustainable projects;
          • "Sustainable living" and its aspects in architecture and urbanism
