Abstract

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumer behavior has transformed. Likewise, the supermarket sector has faced new challenges imposed by the spread of the virus. Thus, this article aims to explore and describe how consumers who frequent supermarkets perceive the risk of infection by COVID-19 and how this is related to the perception of human and spatial Crowding, with satisfaction and purchase intention. The research is exploratory, descriptive, and quantitative, containing a non-probabilistic convenience sample. A survey was carried out characterized by the use of an online questionnaire. Conducting this work is mainly justified by the scarcity of research that studied the perception of risk of infection by COVID-19 in the context of consumer behavior in supermarkets. Among the main results, the research shows that, regardless of whether a group of people has high levels of the perceived risk of infection by COVID-19 and a high perception of Crowding, they remain very satisfied and intend to buy from local supermarkets.
