As primeiras cidades-jardim na América do Norte

Resumo

Este ensaio busca introduzir o surgimento das cidades-jardins (garden-cities) nos Estados Unidos e sobrevoar as belas características da disposição organizada e auto-suficiente de cada uma dessas cidades, as quais se transformaram em uma tipologia urbana norte-americana. O interior dos Estados Unidos está repleto dessa tipologia urbana que respeita o contato franco do homem com o ar livre e com a tranqüilidade de se poder caminhar entre as unidades habitacionais por meio de gramados e jardins (Figura 1). As cidades-jardins tiveram seu germe nas cidades-jardins inglesas, as quais começaram a ser pensadas ainda antes da virada do século XX. Na Europa que, com exceção de seu esvaziado meio rural, vivia então dentro de imensas metrópoles repletas de industrias e fábricas de todo tipo - ambiente insalubre - surgiram, pelas mãos de empreendedores com certa influência para imprimirem mudanças de vulto, as primeiras cidades-jardins. Após, durante a Primeira e a Segunda grandes guerras, os Estados Unidos tiveram sua chance, assistiram à grande demanda industrial e ao conseqüente aumento das necessidades habitacionais - era o momento ideal de alguns homens de boa vontade (good will) criarem as cidades-jardins que moldaram a cena do jeito americano de viver.

Abstract
This essay searches for introducing the arising of the garden cities in the United States and for flying over the beautiful characteristics of the organized and auto-sufficient arrangement of each one of this cities, which had transformed into a north-American urban typology. The United States inland is replete of this urban typology that respects the frank contact of the man with the open air and with the tranquility of being allowed to walk among the residential units by lawns and gardens environment (Figure 1). The garden cities had its embryo in the British garden cities, which began to be thought even before the turning of the XX century. In Europe that, with the exception of its empty rural environment, then lived inside immense metropolises replete of industries and factories of all kind - unhealthy environment - arisen, from the hands of entrepreneurs with certain influence to instill important changes, the first garden cities. Afterwards, during the First and the Second great wars, the United States had its chance, assisted to the big industrial demand and to the consequent increment of the residential needs - it was the ideal moment of some good will men to create the garden cities that molded the American way of life scene.
